Collective of Authors
The latest iteration of the ongoing research project ModificAI builds on previous experiments with the generation of iconic objects, this time focusing on chair design.
The project employs text prompts, reverse processes, and various AI methods — from text-to-image generation to the creation of 3D models — which are then interwoven with traditional design thinking. It demonstrates that AI need not be merely a tool, but also a creative partner that accelerates the ideation phase and opens new possibilities for combining forms and functions. The use of 3D printing enables rapid prototyping in physical form, while text-to-video tools introduce a new dimension in which animated morphing of chair types visualizes their evolution and transformation over time.
Within the SHIFT exhibition, the project represents a transformation of the design process itself — from a linear trajectory of sketch to product into a dialogue between human and artificial intelligence that expands the boundaries of imagination and redefines the role of the author.
ThisChairDoesNotExist II raises the question of how design may be shaped by collaboration with algorithms in the future. It reveals that digital technologies are not only tools that accelerate creation, but also environments for experimenting with visual culture, narrative, and aesthetics in ways previously unimaginable.
